The Uttar Pradesh government offers incentives to encourage electric vehicle (EV) adoption

The Uttar Pradesh government recently unveiled an array of incentives designed to increase the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). These incentives include 100% tax exemption on EVs sold and registered within Uttar Pradesh between October 14, 2022, and October 13, 2025, followed by 100% rebates for manufactured, sold, and registered EVs manufactured sold registered within the state from 2025-2027.

Uttar Pradesh will also offer a 15% subsidy on EVs purchased within its borders, providing up to Rs 5,000 per vehicle for two lakh electric two-wheelers purchased, up to a maximum of Rs 12,000 for 50 three-wheelers. As much as 1 lakh per four-wheeler purchased.

Additionally, up to Rs 20 lakh will be given as subsidies on each e-bus purchased within the state, and up to 1,000 e-goods carriers will receive a subsidy of 10% of the factory price when purchasing one vehicle worth up to Rs 1 million each.

State government employees in Uttar Pradesh will also be given incentives to purchase electric vehicles through advance payments from the government to boost usage of these eco-friendly cars, reduce carbon emissions and foster sustainable mobility. These measures should increase the use of EVs across Uttar Pradesh.

Here are some of the main advantages of Uttar Pradesh EV policy:

  • Uttar Pradesh will grant 100% tax exemption on electric vehicles sold and registered between October 14, 2022, and October 13, 2025, as well as a 100% rebate on those manufactured, sold, and registered in the state between October 14, 2025, and 2027; there will also be 15% factory price subsidies per EV purchased in Uttar Pradesh as well as up to Rs 20 lakh subsidies per bus and Rs 1.00 lakh subsidies for e-goods carriers respectively.
  • Encouragement for government employees to purchase electric vehicles (EVs).
  • Uttar Pradesh government employees will now receive incentives that should make these EVs more cost-effective and accessible, thus helping increase adoption and ultimately helping to reduce carbon emissions while simultaneously increasing sustainable mobility solutions.

Here are a few reasons why the Uttar Pradesh EV policy stands out:

  • Indian policy on electric vehicles (EVs) has long been comprehensive. To encourage their gradual adoption, various incentives are provided both to buyers and manufacturers of EVs.
  • Uttar Pradesh’s Electric Vehicle Policy aligns with India’s national EV policy. It stands as a significant step toward increasing the adoption of electric vehicles across India and positively contributing to both environmental sustainability and the economy in Uttar Pradesh.
