Tata Motors gears up for EV domination with exclusive dealerships and global expansion plans
Tata Motors, India’s leading electric vehicle (EV) maker, is poised to take its EV game to the next level with the launch of exclusive EV dealerships across the country and plans to export its electric cars to new international markets.
Under the new Tata.ev brand, the automaker is initially planning to set up a handful of EV-only dealerships in India, with a focus on both big and small cities. This move is part of Tata Motors’ strategy to create a distinct retail experience for its EV customers, who have unique needs and expectations.
The company is currently finalizing its international business strategy, but it is expected to target key markets such as the Asia-Pacific region, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Tata Motors’ EV production plans
To fuel its EV ambitions, Tata Motors is also investing heavily in its production capabilities. The company has already signed a deal with the Government of Gujarat to build a lithium-ion cell plant with an investment of $1.6 billion. This plant is likely to have an initial production capacity of 20 gigawatt hours (GWh), which could be doubled in the next phase of expansion.
Tata Motors also has a facility in Sanand, Gujarat, where it manufactures its electric cars. The company has also taken over the adjacent Ford Motors plant, and the integration of the two facilities is already underway.
Tata Motors’ EV line-up
Tata Motors currently offers three electric cars in India: the Nexon EV, the Tiago EV, and the Tigor EV. The Nexon EV is the company’s best-selling EV, and it recently received a facelift with a slightly increased range, tweaked electric powertrain, additional features, and a fresh look inside and out.
Tata Motors is also planning to expand its EV line-up in the coming years. The company is expected to launch the Punch EV soon, followed by other electrified offerings in the next few years.
Conclusion
With its exclusive EV dealerships, global expansion plans, and strong EV production capabilities, Tata Motors is poised to become a major player in the global EV market.
